Accredited Level 2 ASP — service lines, meter work and mains upgrades

New service connection, meter upgrade or mains repair? Level 2 work must be done by an ASP-accredited electrician — that's us. We handle Ausgrid liaison, service lines and metering end to end.

## Local context
Concord sits in Inner West, Sydney. Postcode 2137, coordinates -33.8552, 151.1005.
Nearby landmarks: Cabarita Park, Concord Repatriation Hospital, Majors Bay Rd.
Common property types: Federation homes, 1950s red-brick, waterfront modernised builds.
Waterfront properties bring salt-air corrosion of meter boxes and outdoor GPOs — IP-rated replacements are routine.
We also service: Strathfield, Strathfield South, Homebush, Homebush West, Burwood, Croydon.

## What's included
- Overhead and underground service connections
- Point of Attachment (POA) repairs and replacements
- Consumer mains upgrades (single and three-phase)
- Meter installation, relocation and NMI additions
- Private power pole install and replacement
- Ausgrid disconnection and reconnection

## Overview
Level 2 electrical work is anything that connects to, or affects, the network side of your meter — service lines from the pole or pit, the point of attachment on the house, the consumer mains between meter and switchboard, and the metering itself. It legally must be performed by an Accredited Service Provider (Level 2 ASP) authorised by Ausgrid. Empire Electrical Contractors is an ASP-accredited business, so we can quote, disconnect, work live where required, install new metering and reconnect — all without waiting on a separate contractor.
The most common Sydney Level 2 jobs are a mains upgrade (typically from 63A to 100A to support ducted air-con, EV charging or a granny flat), a service line replacement after a storm rip-off, a meter box relocation for a renovation or driveway change, and a new service connection for a knock-down-rebuild or secondary dwelling. Every job includes the Ausgrid notification, the Contestable/Non-Contestable paperwork, and coordination of any street pit or pole access needed.
Because Level 2 works usually involve a planned outage, we book the outage window to suit you (early morning is standard), attend as an entire crew, and complete disconnection, replacement and reconnection in one visit wherever the scope allows.

## Fixed pricing
$850–$4,500 AUD per job. Workmanship warranty 60 months. Typical on-site duration ~4 hours.

## Symptoms we hear about
- Service line down or damaged
- Point of attachment pulled off the fascia
- Overhead-to-underground conversion required
- Private pole needing replacement

## Common causes
- Storm damage
- Renovation extending the eaves
- Corroded service fuse
- Old bare-wire consumer mains

## How we handle it
1. **Scope with Ausgrid** — We lodge the Service Order and confirm the work category with the network operator.
2. **Isolate at the pole** — Our ASP disconnects the service safely and installs temporary make-safe if required.
3. **Install and test** — New consumer mains, point of attachment or metering equipment installed to network standards.
4. **Notify and re-energise** — Paperwork lodged, network reconnects and we hand over the CCEW.

## Applicable standards
- NSW Service and Installation Rules 2019
- AS/NZS 3000:2018 — Wiring rules

## Recent anonymised jobs
### Point of attachment repair after storm damage
High winds in Concord pulled the point of attachment away from the roofline. We repaired the mounting, restrung the service line to the correct tension and cleared it for reconnection. Jobs like this between Cabarita Park and Concord Repatriation Hospital are part of our regular Concord run, so callouts here rarely wait long.
Outcome: Attachment point repaired, service line reconnected safely.. Approx. 150 minutes on site.

### Consumer mains upgrade to 25 mm²
The service to a home in Concord was undersized for a new air conditioner and EV charger. As an accredited Level 2 provider we arranged the disconnection, upgraded the consumer mains and re-connected and sealed the meter. Waterfront properties bring salt-air corrosion of meter boxes and outdoor GPOs — IP-rated replacements are routine. Postcode 2137 is on our daily Inner West run, and every level 2 electrical job there is quoted up front and completed to AS/NZS 3000.
Outcome: Upgraded mains, capacity for future load, notification lodged.. Approx. 420 minutes on site.

## FAQs
**What is a Level 2 electrician?**
A Level 2 electrician (ASP — Accredited Service Provider) is authorised by the network operator (Ausgrid in most of Sydney) to work on the service line, point of attachment, consumer mains and metering. Regular electricians cannot legally do this work.

**Do you handle the Ausgrid paperwork?**
Yes — the Level 2 notification, contestable/non-contestable forms, metering coordinator submission and Notification of Service Works are all lodged by us. You don't deal with Ausgrid.

**How long is my power off for a mains upgrade?**
Typical single-phase mains upgrade is 4-6 hours of outage on the day. Three-phase upgrades or full meter relocations can be a full day. We book the outage window to suit you.

**How much does a mains upgrade cost?**
Most residential 63A→100A single-phase upgrades land between $2,800 and $5,500 depending on cable run, meter box condition and metering coordinator fees. Three-phase upgrades are quoted per site.

**Storm ripped the service line off my house — is that urgent?**
Yes. A live service line down or a damaged point of attachment is a make-safe emergency — call us 24/7. We isolate the network, secure the site, and quote the permanent Level 2 repair.

**Do I need to upgrade my mains for an EV charger?**
Sometimes. A single 7kW EV charger usually fits within existing 63A mains if the rest of the load isn't heavy. A 22kW three-phase charger, a second EV or a heat pump on top usually needs a mains upgrade. We assess as part of the EV charger quote.

**Can you install a new meter for a granny flat?**
Yes — additional NMI installation, separate metering for secondary dwellings and sub-metering setups are core Level 2 work.
