## Overview
LED downlights are the single easiest upgrade you can make to a Sydney home — they cut lighting power by around 90%, run cool enough to sit safely against ceiling insulation (IC-4 rated), and last 15+ years without a bulb change. We supply and install a curated range of quality LEDs — no cheap flickering imports — with matched dimmers, warm or cool colour temperatures, and neat plaster cut-outs that don't need patching.
Most jobs are a straight halogen-to-LED swap: old fittings out, new LEDs wired to the existing circuits, dimmer swapped if the customer wants dimming. Ceiling downlights that used to sit inside a heat cage can now be pushed flush and covered with insulation, so you stop losing heated or cooled air through the ceiling. For larger relights we plan the layout room by room — one 9-10W LED per 1.2-1.5m² of floor space, evenly spaced, 60cm off walls — and can add sensor lighting, exterior lighting and smart controls at the same time.
If you're renovating, adding pendants, or fitting out a kitchen island we handle the design as well as the install. Every job includes cleanup, testing, and a workmanship warranty on the fittings we supply.

## Fixed pricing
$65–$130 AUD per fitting installed. Workmanship warranty 60 months. Typical on-site duration ~3 hours.

## Symptoms we hear about
- Halogens running hot enough to feel through the ceiling
- LED downlights flickering or buzzing on the dimmer
- Dark corners even with new bulbs
- Dimmable LEDs that won't dim below 40%
- Ceiling insulation pushed away from the fittings (fire risk)

## Common causes
- Legacy halogen transformers left on the circuit
- Non-dimmable LEDs paired with a leading-edge dimmer
- Undersized fittings for the room area
- IC-rated but wrong colour temperature for the space
- Missing driver-dimmer compatibility check

## How we handle it
1. **Walk the rooms** — We measure each room, mark ceiling positions and recommend colour temperature and dimming per zone.
2. **Spec the matched pair** — We select the exact driver-dimmer combination so there's no buzz, no flicker, and full 5-100% dim range.
3. **Isolate the circuits** — We turn off the lighting circuits at the switchboard and confirm dead with a two-pole tester.
4. **Remove old fittings** — Halogens and transformers out, ceiling cavity checked for insulation clearance.
5. **Install and terminate** — New IC-4 rated LEDs installed with plaster-clean cut-outs, drivers safely secured above the ceiling.
6. **Test, tune and hand over** — We tune every dimmer, confirm scenes work, and leave you the driver spec sheet for warranty claims.

## Applicable standards
- AS/NZS 3000:2018 Section 4 — Selection & installation
- AS/NZS 60598.2.2 — Recessed luminaires safety

## Seasonal note
Relight jobs are quickest in cooler months when the roof cavity is under 30 °C — we book most whole-home relights between April and September.

### Kitchen relight for a mid-century renovation
Kitchen renovation in North Strathfield needed even task lighting over the island plus dimmable ambient. We laid out fittings on a 1.4 m² grid, installed pendants over the bench and wired a two-scene dimmer. North Strathfield falls inside postcode 2137 on our Inner West route, so we quote up front and finish to AS/NZS 3000 with a compliance certificate. Most of the housing on this side of North Strathfield is Federation homes, so we planned cable routes and fixing points around that before touching a tool.
Outcome: Bright, even lighting, two dim scenes, no shadow zones.. Approx. 220 minutes on site.

### IC-rated downlights for a re-insulated ceiling
After a North Strathfield home had its ceiling insulation topped up, the old downlights were no longer insulation-contact rated. We swapped every fitting for IC-rated LEDs safe to cover with insulation. The property sits a short drive from North Strathfield Station, in a pocket of Inner West we're working in most weeks. Postcode 2137 is on our daily Inner West run, and every led downlights job there is quoted up front and completed to AS/NZS 3000.
Outcome: Insulation-safe LEDs throughout, no fire-risk clearance gaps.. Approx. 260 minutes on site.

## FAQs
**Can I replace my halogen downlights with LEDs?**
Yes and you should - halogens run at 300°C+, waste power and are a known cause of ceiling fires. Modern LEDs use ~10% of the power, last 15+ years and are IC-4 rated to sit safely against insulation.

**Are your LEDs dimmable?**
Yes - we install trailing-edge dimmable LEDs paired with a compatible dimmer as standard on request. Not all LED/dimmer combos work, so we spec the pair together.

**Do you patch the ceiling if you move a light?**
We leave a clean, professional plaster cut. Full patching, sanding and paint is a plasterer's job - we can recommend one or coordinate with yours.

**How many downlights do I need per room?**
As a rule: one 9-10W LED per 1.2-1.5m² of floor space, spaced evenly and 60cm off walls. We do a free lighting layout as part of the quote.

**Warm white or cool white — what should I pick?**
Warm white (2700-3000K) suits bedrooms, living rooms and hallways. Neutral (3500-4000K) suits kitchens, bathrooms and workspaces. Cool white (5000K+) is really only for garages, workshops and commercial spaces — it's harsh in a home.

**Can you install pendants and feature lighting too?**
Yes — pendants over kitchen islands, chandeliers, wall sconces, LED strip in kitchens and bathrooms, and outdoor feature lighting. We supply or install customer-supplied fittings.
